#3: Jacuzzi Family Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvingnon (2006)
Jacuzzi wine. Sounds sleazy. Sounds like a cheap red you could find at a swim-up bar in Vegas. Sounds a bit unsanitary. Sounds like some strange bathtub moonshine variant. I imagine red bubbles and massaging jets. Yeah, sounds, sounds, sounds. But what does it taste like?
Before we get to that, lets briefly hit on the industry of choice for the Jacuzzi family. Their tag line is “Generations Dedicated to the Art of Discovery”, which hints at a father/son team “discovering” the joys of home brewing. Alas! Look at that bottle! When you think Jacuzzi, what do you automatically think of? Thats right. Airplanes.
The Jacuzzi family, according to the notes on the back of the bottle, invented the toothpick propeller *(the WHAT?!) and the first cabin monoplane (a mix between remote outdoor living, a communicable kissing disease, and aeronautics). That’s right, the generations of discovery is in reference to a completely different industry! Well, this ought to taste wonderful!
Thank god that the toothpick propeller never took off (pun intended), and the Jacuzzi has plenty of time to work on their wine. The stuff actually isn’t bad at all, and I would go as far as to say it is quite drinkable. The flavor isn’t thick or heavy, yet the acidity and fruit ratio is just right. It smells like brandy, and has a faint oak-aged taste. It has that tingle on your palette that you get after sipping a stronger spirit, but not overwhelming.
Overall quite delicious actually. And the cork has a propeller on it. Best time to drink this bottle: in a hot tub at the ski-in-ski-out condo that your neighbor leant you for the weekend surrounded by beautiful women (or men) feeling the burn in your legs from a long day of skiing. OR, right before a bath in your undersized coffin of a bathtub before falling asleep with your glasses still on reading The Economist in bed.
Next up: a review of my latest batch of homemade Pinot Giorgio called Red Face White.

Great post! I think I’ll stay away from this one for now seeing a though I don’t ski or take baths. I gonna hold out til I find something I can drink whilst in the shower, possibly a white with notes of grapefruit and pear.

How fun!!….We just started the “Accidental Journey” as well. We received the Jacuzzi, Hellbent, and Castello di Verrazzano Chianti.
I’m making an Old World Ratatoullie tonight with Elk Sirloin, so we might go for the Jacuzzi or the Chianti (its supposed to be a very full-bodied, spicy one, not typical I guess. We’ll keep you posted on our tastes! Cheers!
